The Delmar Loop becomes a trolley-line construction zone starting this week. Owner of Vintage Vinyl, Tom Papa Ray says he can hear the jackhammers, but it doesn’t bother him.
“It’s like the pains of birth,” Ray says. “But welcome back to the future this is one of the great neighborhoods in the United States.”
He expects the Loop Trolley to be good for the area.
“Just because they tear the road up in front of your relative’s house doesn’t mean your not going to go see your mom or your dad or your brother or your sister.” Says Ray
Ray says when he looks out the window and sees the heavy equipment and orange construction fence is like a concert venue or a medium security prison.
Vintage Vinyl has been named one of the ten best record stores in the United States by USA Today. Ray says vinyl started its come-back in 2006 and has been going strong ever since.
Orange construction fencing is up in the eastbound lanes of Delmar, but the westbound lanes are open and so are the sidewalks. Work is expected to be done by the middle of next year.
