The $43 million Loop Trolley project has cleared a final hurdle, as the city council in University City gave its final approval to the project Monday night.
Construction on the rail line now is set to begin this summer, Joe Edwards, owner of Blueberry Hill restaurant and chairman of the Loop Trolley Transportation Development District, told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
“I am relieved and excited,” Edwards told the newspaper after the council’s special session. Utility relocation and other preliminary work will begin this summer, he said.
The city council unanimously approved a trolley construction, maintenance and operations agreement and a permanent easement, the Post-Dispatch reports. That will allow the trolley district to solicit bids and award construction contracts, Edwards told the newspaper.
